We will visit examples of mines from the earliest to the most modern (one of which closed only 20 years ago.

Subject: Why was Cornwall so heavily mined?  Discover the geology which made Cornwall the richest county in the UK.  

 

We will visit locations where you can see the minerals first hand.  See metals leaching from the ground, and why not start your own mineral collection!

Subject: How has the lagacy of mining effected tourism?  We look at the detrimental effects and the more recent mining tourists.

 

Cornwalls Mining heritage has recently been awarded World Heritage status.  We look at some of the world heritage sites, and discover some of the effects of the World Heritage status.

Duration: 1 Day - 2 Days

 

Subject: China Clay (or Kaolin) is one of the most widely used minerals in modern society - our day to day lives would not be the same without it.

 

Cornwall, is one of the biggest producers in the world.  Come and see how the landscape has been changed by this form of mining -  see completely new hills created entirely by man.

 

We will also look at what happens after the mining is finished.
